PADI Dry Suit Diver Specialty

Dive season in Wisconsin DOES last all year! A dry suit is your year round ticket to extremely cool adventure. Whether you want to explore the historic wrecks in Lake Michigan, venture through underwater forests in a quarry, or cruise through incredibly clear water under the ice - dry suit diving extends your diving environment beyond the limitations of a wetsuit. More dive sites, different marine life, longer dives, and especially in Wisconsin, a longer dive season are just a few of the advantages when you dive dry.

It’s not difficult to dive in a dry suit, though it differs from diving in a wetsuit in many respects. You have more choices in materials in dry suits than wetsuits, and you use different techniques for weighting and buoyancy control. You put on and remove a dry suit differently than a wetsuit, and you have different maintenance and repair concerns. The PADI Dry Suit Diver course introduces you to all of these. The class begins on land where the students have a chance to handle a dry suit and examine the different materials used in wetsuit production. Also at this point the students learn maintenance testing and repair techniques. During the confined water training students practice properly donning a dry suit, and will learn what the mysterious fifth hose connects to. In a controlled enviroment the students will get a chance to practice descents and ascents along with some buoyancy control techniques. During the open water dives students learn to perfect their buoyancy control under the supervision of an instructor. Don’t miss out on the great visibility during the cold months here in Wisconsin. With the PADI Dry Suit Diver course you can extend your diving season to year round. |
